Structural
• Be watchful of cracks in foundations inside or out as this can lead to structural damage.
• Structural damage can cause floors, ceilings or interior walls warping or other damage.
• Structural damage can also cause warping or other damage to doors or windows.

Mold
• Watch for and eliminate any obvious growths or spores.
• Mold spores are easily released into the air and inhaled once airbourne.
• Problems resulting from this include: allergies, respiratory distress or even death from rare but highly toxic molds!

Safety
• Smoke/Carbon Monoxide/C0² Detectors should be installed/maintained.
• Get in the annual habit of checking the batteries of existing units.
• Use Combination Detectors that check for multiple dangers.
• Keep at least 2 small fire extinguishers in the house. These should be from tested brands and should be ABC rated or "Multipurpose".
• Make sure everyone knows how and when to use it, it might be wise to keep it along fire escape routes instead of the back closet buried.

Utilities
• Know how to safely turn off main feeds for electricity, water, gas.
• Know what number to call for these systems (ex: Power Company, Water Company, Gas Company, etc).

Roofing
• Watch for missing or decaying shingles, have them replaced as soon as possible.
• Once water enters beneath shingles it can migrate and accumulate in attics causing dry wall damage, warped ceilings and mold.

Electrical
• Grounded Fault Interrupter (GFI-type) outlets should be installed around any source of water and in unfinished basements.
• These wall outlets have a built-in safety feature designed to prevent electrical shock in the event of a short circuit.
