- Watch for and eliminate any obvious growths or spores.
- Mold spores are easily released into the air and inhaled once air bourne. Problems resulting from this include: allergies, respiratory distress or even death from rare but highly toxic molds!

- Smoke/Carbon Monoxide/C0˛ Detectors should be installed/maintained.
- Get in the annual habit of checking the batteries of existing units.
- Use Combination Detectors that check for multiple dangers.
- Keep at least 2 small fire extinguishers in the house. These should be from tested brands and should be ABC rated or "Multipurpose".
- Make sure everyone knows how and when to use it, it might be wise to keep it along fire escape routes instead of the back closet buried.
